Bear Baiting Crack (definition) – a sweet delicious ooey-gooey concoction used to coat your main bear-baiting ingredients (dog food/pastries/cereal) to make it irresistible to bears.
Bear Crack is made to coat your dog food or bread products (donuts/bread/pastries/cereal). The Bear Crack is like putting gravy on potatoes, or syrup on pancakes, or, well, you get the point. The bottom line is that it supercharges the bait in and around your Bear Baiting Barrell, making it too irresistible for bears not to flock to your baiting site!

Let’s start with the main ingredients and the main cooking accessories you need to make your Bear Crack and invite your bear friends to the barrel party.
Ingredients: Keep in mind that the amounts depend on the number of barrels or the amount of the main ingredient you are using as the basis for your barrel bait. Your goal isn’t to soak your main ingredient, but to give it a sticky coating. Make sure and make enough to pour around the barrel as well.
Pancake Syrup (2 bottles)
Marshmallows (1 bag – small marshmallows cook down quicker)
Jello Packet (1 pack – any flavor)
Sugar (1 lb. bag)
Portable Propane Stove
Disposable Tins
It’s better to cook the Bear Crack on site. Use a disposable tin that’s easy to crumple up and throw in your bag to take back to camp/home and dispose of. Use a stick to stir the concoction and just leave it sticking out of the barrel, like a bear crack lollipop for the taking.

Cooking: Start with the tin on the ground and mix in the marshmallows and the syrup. Get the mixture good and stirred up and then apply heat. The marshmallows will rise to the top as the syrup heats up.
Just before the mixture starts to boil (the marshmallows may not be melted all the way), you’re going to want to add the sugar and packet of jello.
As the mixture continues to heat up, keep stirring and be careful as it comes to a boil. When the mixture starts boiling and popping it can send up little sugary splatters onto your face and arms like lava–so be careful!

Just know that whatever this stuff gets on is not coming off…boots, pants, shirts, etc. So be careful (I said that already, I know).
At this point, you can take the mixture off the heat and continue to stir. Make sure the ingredients mix thoroughly and stir, stir, stir.
Once you have it mixed to your satisfaction, you can put it back on the heat to give it a last burn.
Apply: You’re ready! Put your base ingredient in your barrel and then pour the Bear Crack over the top. Make sure and leave enough of the mixture to pour around the barrel to entice our furry friends even further.

And there you have it. You’re a Bear Crack Chef!
Only For The Brave: Before pouring it on your base ingredients, take a larger marshmallow on a stick and dip it into the mixture. Go ahead, do it. Make sure the mixtures cool enough before popping the coated marshmallow in your mouth. And then admit it, it’s amazing!
